I think referring to Level 1 or Trainee Reactions as "smile sheets" does everyone a disservice. Level 1 isn't about whether or not the trainees "liked" or are "happy" with the training. It's about much more important matters; for example: Do they see the connections between what was presented in the training and their work? What, if any, downstream payoffs do they see in the training? Was the value they derived from the training worth their investment of time and energy? Senior executives are rightly dismissive of much of the data collected via "smile sheets" but then those data shouldn't have been collected in the first place and doing so was a waste of everyone's time.
